JFK 50 miler

Postby suzanne » Thu Jul 09, 2009 5:34 pm

I just sent in my registration for the JFK 50 miler in November (3 weeks after NYC Marathon, perfect). Race will sell out very fast. I know a couple other club members doing it aswell....would love to see more come down. It is a very good entry level 50. It is the biggest 50 in the US (1000 entrant limit). Might have been the first ultra, too.

Some love, some hate this race but I want to do it once. It is not very technical, times posted are fast. So please consider. Suzanne

I've had the JFK on my radar screen for a couple months now.

I have been contemplating trying my luck at an ultra and thought that since I turned 50 this year, it would be fitting to complete a 50 miler.

The history of this race is also something that appeals to me, as well as the course terrain.

The timing of the event, 3 weeks after the NYCM, lines up nicely as a nice last long training run as Suzanne points out.

The fact that other club members are going too, should make the experience that much more fun.

All that being said, I mailed off my entry this morning.

Perhaps those of us who are doing this event can get together for some of the long training runs leading up to the event as well.

I think club member Gene Mizzoni and his partner-in-crime Dave Franz are doing it. I met them while I was doing some secret-training on Patriot's Path last Sunday. Dave even tried to video us while we were all running. Suffice to say it didn't come out, but they post a lot of stuff on their blog:

Check out their Independence Day video.

For everyone that wants a nice 50K to warm up for JFK50 Miler check out the Mountain Madness 50K in October up at Ringwood State Park.

Course will be on blazed trails with a small mixture of roads to cause fast times. Should be perfect training for JFK.
